Use this Legal Marketing Tip to Attract More Law Clients Without Causing Fear
The Pandemic has brought destruction, depression, and death to thousands of people around the world. Even now it is raging forward. As people keep their eye on the Pandemic in an effort to stay ahead of the deadly virus, they have developed a false sense of security that their problems are over. This false sense of comfort is what we are here to talk about today. Read on.
Chase Musser: How can we, as attorneys, shake people out of their false sense of security that they can’t have any legal problems due to the pandemic?
Andy Stickel: You just have to bring up problems that they didn’t know they had. So for example, healthcare directives are a really good one right now, right. So you could say, “People might not realize. etc” I mean, I don’t know a lot of legalities. But if you’re not married, for example, and your boyfriend ends up having to go into the hospital, there’s probably going to be a lot of scenarios where you’re not even going to be able to see them or make decisions on their behalf if they want you to.
So really, what it kind of comes down to is calling out the problem and then offering the solution because there’s a lot of people that are probably not even problem aware. If they have a false sense of security. So it’s creating value. It’s asking a question. So when you do your Facebook post, the first line should ask a very direct question. So in that, it would be like, “If your boyfriend…” or, “If you’re unmarried… Let’s say if you’re unmarried partner…” I don’t know how exactly you would say it. But basically, “If your boyfriend or girlfriend went into the hospital, would you be allowed to see them? You might be surprised by the answer,” something like that as your first line to really kind of make somebody that sees that to go and say, “Wait a second. I thought…” It kind of makes them think. It makes them problem aware. And then you can offer the solution in the video. There may be some ways to handle this. It will require more thought.
Creating Legal Marketing Content To Get More Clients During The Pandemic
The Coronavirus has taken the world to a place we have never been to before. The laws and rules that regulate our system are crumbling and no one knows how to change that. It affects every man, woman, and child on the planet. The changes are sometimes as frightening as the pandemic. Follow along to understand what we mean.
Andy Stickel: There are so many questions about people’s rights. They are coming up every single day right now. You can just have a field day creating content about what’s realistic and what isn’t. It’s funny but serious.
Ideas to write about
I somehow ended up down this wormhole a few days ago online. The subject was about if they can actually cancel the elections and figure out what would happen with that. What I found is that it’s actually really complicated. There is a really interesting story about what happens if, let’s say, they do decide to cancel the elections. By the way, I’m not a conspiracy theorist. But, what I am saying is it was really interesting. Well, if that happens, then it would actually benefit the Democrats for a couple of different ways that I don’t remember specifically. But just stuff like that. I mean, there is so much stuff you can talk about.
Legal restrictions crash
You can talk about what happens if you’re on probation or parole and part of your condition is you’re supposed to maintain employment and you just lost your job. What if you can’t meet with a probation officer? What if you are on house arrest and you have an ankle bracelet on and you have to go to the hospital? What if, if you have an ankle bracelet on, your spouse has to go to the hospital? Do you know what I mean? There are so many things. Literally, just think of every single problem they could potentially have right now and just create content on it and just help people.
Nicholas Werker: The headlines in my head are going crazy right now like, “Myths disappear. Can you do this during quarantine? Can…,” blah, blah, blah. Do you know what I mean? Even if you just help people discover the truth about what’s going on, you’re still providing value and you’re still educating them.
Andy Stickel: Exactly. And just create videos that are designed to share. You can start the video and be like, “Hey, everybody. Everybody knows I’m a criminal defense attorney and I want to just set the record straight on something. So by the way, if you know somebody that needs this help, that needs to hear this, click the share button, and share it because I want to get this message out. So a lot of people don’t know this. But if you’re under quarantine, you actually are allowed to leave your house under certain circumstances. The first circumstance you’re allowed to leave your house is this.” Do you know what I mean? Just create stuff like that and people will share it and your name will get out there and then people will start messaging you. Another thing to pay attention to – and I have not said this yet – is you need to pay attention to your filtered messages. Because if somebody messages you that’s not a friend on Facebook, it’s going to go into your filtered messages. And that’s where messages go to die. So you’ve got to go in there and you’ll find a lot of messages in there that people have sent you where they’re asking questions. So that’s a big thing – filtered messages.

Chase Musser: Ok, our next question comes from William. William has a question about the reviews. You mentioned getting more reviews. “In criminal defense, matters are very personal, intimate, usually embarrassing. How do you get a client to talk about the reason they came to you without revealing that?”
Andy Stickel: Well, one thing you can do is position so you can’t see their face. That could be one way to do it. We actually have a client who somehow (I don’t know how they did it) but they did it with the lighting. I mean, I’m sure you could play with the lighting so that you can’t see them. You know, like in those old crime shows where they have the person and it’s dark? Just have them in a dark room and you can answer that way. That would probably be the best way to do it just to hide their face.
Nicholas Werker: I also do a lot of written interviews and I turn them into case studies. But you can just make it so that they just answer your questions anonymously and written. And you can always do what Andy’s saying. And you can turn it into a blog post as well and share it so that people can read it instead of hearing it and keep everybody’s information anonymous. But anybody’s willing to share, definitely take advantage of that. But obviously, you want to keep people’s personal information that they want to keep personal away from the Internet.
Andy Stickel: Yes. Absolutely. And actually, I don’t know why I was just thinking about the video. But, yes, I mean, honestly, if you can send people those questions over email, and you can ask them to leave a Google review for you also. And a lot of people… I mean, criminal defense is a tricky one because, obviously, no one wants to go on and thank their criminal defense lawyer for getting those pesky sexual harassment charges dropped from their personal page. So what you can do is have them create a different Gmail account and then do it from there. You’ll get a better testimonial. If you send them those questions that I listed before, you’ll get a much better testimonial.
