Law Firm Not Ranking? It Could Be This Google Update
Is it possible that the reason that your law firm is not ranking in Google Maps is that there are too many attorneys at your same address? Now, this happens quite often. It’s actually an update that was released about three years ago called the Google Possum update. I’m going to show you exactly what that means.
Now, let’s look at my drawing here. Let us say this is the road and this is basically four corners of a road here. This is the road. Here’s my horrible drawing. Now, let’s say that you are in an office building that’s right here on the corner. There is another building here. There’s another law firm right here. Now, in this law firm, right here, there’s one attorney. Basically, in this building, at this address, there’s only one attorney. Same thing here. There’s only one attorney. This is your office. This is you right here and you’re actually in a high-rise building and there are several attorneys that are in that building that are all basically in the same type of practice area. Let’s say you’re a personal injury attorney and there’s one personal injury attorney here, one personal injury attorney here, and then there are seven personal injury attorneys right there. We typically see this very often in Regus offices. This is why Regus offices and shared office space, a lot of times, don’t typically work. Well, what ends up happening in this scenario is that Google will only show one lawyer per address and it’ll filter the rest out. Just for simplicity, let’s say the searcher is right here, right smack dab in the middle. Let’s say they search for a personal injury attorney. This attorney is going to show up. This attorney is going to show up. The most authoritative attorney out of this entire batch. So not this one, not this one, not this one, not this one, not this one, not this one. This one is actually going to show up because he’s the absolute most authoritative based on his Google My Business profile. Becoming authoritative on your Google My Business profile isn’t that difficult. But what’s going to happen is this one is going to show, this one is going to show, and this one is going to show, which means that these six attorneys are not going to show up because they’re being filtered out because of the Google Possum update.
The Solution
The solution to this is two things. One, you can move your law firm, (which, is not really a good solution for most attorneys.) The second is you’ve got to become way more authoritative than all these other attorneys here until you become the highest authority. Then you will start showing the search when someone searches from there and then you become the attorney that actually shows up in your building. Now, if you’re having this issue with your law firm as I said, it’s actually not that difficult to become the most authoritative law firm in your building. But it does take some advanced knowledge.

No Time to Film Video Remarketing
Hey, everybody. Andy Stickel here. I talk to lawyers all the time and they say, “I want to run social media ads and I want to do social media for my law firm but I just don’t have time to film videos every single day. I just don’t have the time.” And what I want to do is I want to show you that filming videos do not have to be complicated. It doesn’t have to take a long time. So what I’m going to do is I’m actually going to show you real quick on this video. I’m going to show you how long it actually takes me to film a video for my marketing.
Basically, this is what it is:
- I think of a problem
- I think of a solution
- I provide value that goes along with it.
“Okay. I’m targeting lawyers. What’s a problem that lawyers have? Especially in crazy times like right now, maybe they’re not getting a lot of new leads in the door and they need cases. Okay. How can we fix that? Well, what we can do is we can actually send out a Didn’t Hire survey. What I’m going to do is I’m going to create a video real quick that basically just explains that process and gives some value and then has a call to action at the end.” It’s super simple and you can see how quickly it actually happens. So what I’m actually going to do is I’m going to pull out my phone right now and I’m going to record this video and we’ll put a timer somewhere around here and I’ll actually show you just how quickly this can happen. Here we go:
Hey, everybody. Andy Stickel here. Hope you’re having a good day. Now, listen, a lot of times, I’ll talk to lawyers and they’ll say, “I really don’t have any new leads coming in but I need more clients.” I have a very simple solution, almost like a hack, that you can use to not only get more clients in the future but get some clients right now. Basically, what that is is to send leads that didn’t hire you a Did Not Hire survey. What a Did Not Hire survey is is a survey that you send out to the prospects that didn’t hire you to find out why they didn’t hire you. This is going to do two things for you. One, it’s probably going to reawaken some dead leads who were about to hire you and were ready to hire you and then life happened or COVID happened or whatever happened and they didn’t actually hire you. Now, you’re contacting them and you’re starting the process again and it’s going to make them think, “Oh, right. I do need to hire that attorney for that thing that I need to handle.” The other thing it’s going to do is it’s going to provide you very, very valuable insights into why they didn’t hire your firm. If you start seeing a common theme, then maybe you can address those things and, in the future, you can avoid whatever the reason that they didn’t hire you was and you can use that to get more clients. It’s really simple. All you have to do is go to Google Forms, which is completely free, or SurveyMonkey, which is a free version of that also. You can send it to people via text message or email. You can send them the survey and get them to give you some feedback about why they didn’t hire your law firm. And there are a couple of questions I would ask. The first question I would ask is, “Were you considering hiring our law firm?” The reason you want to ask this is that if the answer is no, then you can pretty much discount the rest of their answers. Because if they weren’t considering hiring you, then it’s probably not someone that’s really going to be valuable to you anyway. The next question is, “Are you still looking for an attorney?” That’s an obvious reason. If they are, then there might be a way that you can get in there. The third question is, “What ultimately led to your decision to not hire our firm? Please be as specific as possible.” Obviously, you’ll get a lot of gold there. You can also ask, “Is there anything else that you’d like to tell us?” A lot of times, people will volunteer information that you never would’ve even thought of if you do that. The final question is, “Would you like us to follow up about having us represent you?” If you send this out, then what will happen is you’ll definitely reawaken some old leads. You’ll also get really, really valuable information that will allow you to do a better job. Maybe there’s something that’s happening. Maybe there’s some part of the process that is actually turning people off and you’ll discover it in this survey. This is a really good habit to do. Not even when you’re slow. Just all the time so you’re always reevaluating your law firm. Now, another thing. All you have to do is figure out what’s the problem people have, offer up a solution, provide some good value, and have an offer at the end of it to take the next step. Whether it’s “Download a cheat sheet,” whether it’s “Send me a message and I’ll point you in the direction,” whether it’s “Leave a comment below, whatever it is, you just gotta help people solve problems as simple as that. You just do it on your phone. It takes three minutes or four minutes a day, hit the upload button, and that’s good. I hope this video was helpful. A lot of times, people will say, “I don’t have time to film videos. I don’t have five minutes a day to film videos.” But that’s really the wrong thing. What you should be saying is, “When do I have five minutes that I can pull out my phone and record a video?” Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right. It’s really easy. I just showed you. It’s super simple. It’s just a matter of having the mindset that you’re actually going to do it. How To Easily Come Up With Topics For Law Firm Videos
Do you want to create content for social media but you’re not entirely sure what you should create content on and you don’t know what to talk about in your videos? Well, in this video, I’m going to show you a very simple way to figure out exactly what to talk about in your videos and a way that you’ll never run out of content. Now, the thing you need to understand is that you need to create content that actually speaks to somebody. Because if you create very generalized content, then people are not really going to react the way that you want them to, to your content.
Who Is Your Audience?
So there are two questions you need to ask yourself. The first question is: who is your ideal audience and who are you actually talking to in your videos? The next question is what problems do they have? If you can figure out who you’re talking to and then you can identify the problems that these types of people have in their everyday life and basic problems that you can help them with, then you can create content that basically calls out the problem, gives a solution. Then provides some value.. When you do that, then people are going to be very receptive to you. What that’s going to do is that’s going to make people pay attention to your content because it’s not all about you and it’s about them and solving their problems.
Every body has problems and everybody wants solutions to their problems. Everytime you publish, your goal is to provide value to the reader. This is the easiest way to create content that builds goodwill, makes people know they can trust you, and actually get them to remember you and eventually call you and eventually hire you.
Now, when I think about this, what I do is create three columns. I’ll draw it down on the board. I’m going to give you an example of how I do this for myself when I’m marketing to lawyers. What you would do is you would just take this exact same strategy and you would insert whoever your ideal client is and you would ask yourself these questions. The first question is: what problems do they have? The second one: what are the solutions to these problems? And then the third column on the right is going to be: what is a story that you can tell about this or is there any value that you can bring to help better explain the problem and the solution? Let me give you a perfect example. I’ll basically just walk you through what I do for lawyers pretty much all the time when I’m handling my marketing.
So I’ll think, “Okay. What are the problems that lawyers have?” One of the problems that lawyers have is they can never get enough reviews. They can never get clients to leave them reviews. They get a great result for a client and they ask the client, “Would you leave me a review?” and the client says, “Yes, I’ll definitely do it” and then they just never do it. So what is the solution to this problem and what’s a story that I have that I can tell to emphasize the solution? Well, one client that we have actually paid his assistant or his receptionist $50 for every review that they got. Obviously, you can’t pay your clients to leave you reviews but you can incentivize somebody on your staff to leave reviews. So that’s actually a really good story. What I would do one day is I’d probably create a video with that. The solution is an incentive. And the story is my client. I’m not going to say their name but their initials are TB and I know exactly what that is. And you probably would be able to do that same thing. What’s another problem that lawyers have? I’ve got one. This obviously doesn’t apply to contingency attorneys but leads come in and they’re always broke. A lead comes in the office and they say, “Yeah. I really want to hire you but I just don’t have $3000 or $5000 to pay your retainer.” How can I help lawyers solve this problem? I know what I can do. I can tell a story about how I solved this for my business by offering PayPal Credit. That’s what I can do. I’ll offer up PayPal Credit as the solution. Now, with this one, I can actually provide some value and I can provide a story because my company offers PayPal Credit for anyone that wants to sign up with us and that gives you no payments for six months and no interest for six months. But I would actually rather give some value with this one. So what I’ll do is I’ll say it’s all about the way you close so you don’t want to just say, “Oh, you can pay us with PayPal.” What you do when they say, “Oh, I can’t pay that fee,” you say, “Well, what if I could give you six months no interest and no payments. Would that be interesting to you? Would you be able to work that out?” And most of the time, people are going to be like, “Yeah. That sounds amazing.” “Okay. Well, we have a relationship with PayPal Credit. What we do is we send you an application and you fill out a couple of questions and then we get you signed up.” So that’s what I’m going to tell them in this video. I’m going to do the close and give some value. Asd I said, it’s either a story or some sort of value that you can offer to support the solution and the problem. What’s another problem that lawyers have? Oh, I know. How about they’re not getting enough leads? Okay. So what can I talk about? Oh, I know. We have a client who used to have a phone tree on his answering machine. And as soon as we got rid of the phone tree, his leads doubled because people were actually picking up the phone and people were sticking around and they weren’t hanging up when they got that voicemail. So I’m going to tell that story about the SSDI attorney that we have. Now, there’s something else I want you to think about. There can be many solutions to each one of these problems and you can do this many, many times. So I’ve got probably 25 videos just for how to deal with broken leads. I’ve got an entire series about how to handle reviews. You can say, “These are the problems and it can be incentivized.” A lot of different things like that. What’s one more that we can think about? Oh, I know. How about attorneys that don’t necessarily know how to close? When a client is in their office, how do they actually seal the deal? How do they get them to close? I’ve got a lot of tips on this. But one thing I can tell them – and actually I just did a video about this not too long ago – is, “What you do is you give a compliment at the beginning of the actual consultation.” I’ll (put a compliment) here. I actually told this to a bankruptcy attorney and the next 20 leads in a row that came in his office, he gave every single one of them a compliment and the next 20 leads in a row retained him for their bankruptcy. So what you can see here is it hasn’t taken me very long. Who am I targeting? I’m targeting lawyers. What are the problems that they have? I start listing the problems right here. What are the solutions to these problems? But what really ties the whole thing together is when you tie with a story or value. That’s what makes social media marketing really work, when you figure out what’s the problem, what’s the solution, and how can I convey it in a way that is easy to digest and understandable. And frankly, it’s usually enjoyable to listen to someone tell a story rather than just someone giving information.
Fantastic Amount Of Video Content
That’s the biggest thing that I want you to think about. If you follow this strategy, then you’ll be able to come up with just a ridiculous amount of content. I mean, I’ve been doing this for two years and I’ve got almost 700 videos and I still come up with new stuff to talk about. I’ve actually never even created a video on this very subject and it was a problem that people had so I was like, “You know what? I’m going to create a video on that.” So that is how you do it. It’s as simple as that. You just figure out who you’re talking to, what’s the problem, what’s the solution.
How I Lost 15 Pounds and How it Can Help Your Lawyer Marketing
Hey, everybody. Andy Stickel here. In this video, I’m going to talk to you about how I lost 15 pounds during the quarantine and what that has to do with your marketing. This is not actually a weight loss video.
I don’t know if you could tell but I still have a few more pounds to go. But I’ve been hearing a lot of people that, while they’re under quarantine, they’re saying that they haven’t really exercised, they haven’t eaten that well and they’re getting ready to go back to work and now their clothes are a little tighter than they should be. I kind of was afraid that that was going to happen to me because eating and sitting around are some of my favorite things to do.
I have to work it very hard, believe it or not, to keep this physique I’ve got going on. So what I decided to do is start tracking what I was actually eating. By tracking it, I was actually able to measure what I was doing. Then by measuring, I could look at the numbers and say, “Oh, okay. Maybe I should have a salad instead of the Oreos,” which was obviously common sense. But for me, what I didn’t realize is I didn’t realize all the little snacking that I was doing between meals and it really starts to add up. Now, what does this have to do with your marketing? Well, basically, by keeping track of what I was doing, I was able to actually cut down a lot of the unnecessary calories that I was eating or unnecessary food that I was eating and I was actually able to lose 15 pounds while being stuck at home on quarantine, which is pretty contrary to what most people have experienced. Now, the reason I was able to do this is that I was able to track things. This is where we get to your marketing. Most people are running a couple of different types of lead generation attempts for their law firm. Maybe you’re doing search engine optimization. Maybe you’re doing Google AdWords. Maybe you’re trying some Facebook or some social media interaction. But the problem is I would say 99% of the law firms that I talk to have no idea which of these methods are effective and which of these methods are not effective. Once you understand what’s effective and what isn’t effective, then you can either make adjustments to the things that are not effective or you can turn them off so you’re not wasting money. And then what you can do is you can also double down on the things that actually are working. Make Vivid Lawyer Marketing Videos That Stand Out on Facebook
If you’re a lawyer and you run Facebook ads, I’m going to show you two really simple and really effective tricks that are going to make more people see your ads. When more people see your ads, then that means more people are going to pay attention to them and more people are going to relate to the message and then ultimately become leads and then ultimately get clients. Facebook runs quickly. People get used to cartoons, jokes, and generic photographs. This is why it is important to throw a trick in the mix. It seems simple, and it is. But, it works.
Pattern interrupt
One of the most important things about running a Facebook ad is something that’s called the pattern interrupt. The pattern interrupt is something where you’re literally trying to interrupt someone who is scrolling through either Facebook or Instagram and they’re sitting there and they’re just mindlessly scrolling. What you need to do something that’s actually going to get their attention and get them to stop scrolling and pay attention to your message.
I’m going to show you using my iPhone how I do this for my pictures. Whenever I have a picture and I use it for an ad, there are always two things that I always do. I’m going to show you what those two things are right now. The first thing I want to do is I’m going to go into my Photos app. And I’ve got this picture right here of my wife and me when we were on vacation. This is back when we were allowed to leave the house. What I’m going to do is I’m going to hit the edit button and I’m going to hit these three overlapping circles on the bottom. This is the filter section.
Now, this was just taken on my iPhone. This picture was taken using the front-facing camera of my iPhone like you would take a selfie. And it looks pretty good. It’s pretty bright. But we can make it look better. What I typically do is I use the second filter over here, the Vivid filter, and it just makes the image pop a little bit. It boosts the saturation. I don’t really even know exactly what it does but it just makes it look really good. This is the original. This is Vivid. You can see it just kind of pops everything out more. I always do that and I hit Done. Just that right there and your colors in your image are going to pop out a lot more. And it’s going to get more people to pay attention just because of the fact that bright colors get attention. That’s just how it is.
Pixaloop
Now, there’s something else that I use. There’s another app called Pixaloop. And what’s really about Pixaloop is you can take a picture like this and you can actually turn it into an animated movie. It’s just subtle. But I’m going to show you how I actually do it and how cool it actually is. I’m going to go over to Pixaloop.
Pixaloop is really cheap. It’s $15 for the year or something like that. So this is definitely worth it. You’re going to hit New Project. I’m going to import the picture that I just edited. Now, what’s cool is you can animate the sky and you can animate water. Now, there’s no water in this image except way in the back. So I’m just going to animate the sky. What’s cool is you hit Sky and now, if you take a look at this, there are so many different skies – some are a little ridiculous and some are really cool – that you can add to this picture, which is really, really awesome.
Take a look at this right now. There’s not a cloud in the sky right now. I can add that and all of a sudden there are clouds in the sky. You hit the animate button and you could see the clouds actually move, which actually turns it into a movie. You could see I’ve got. I’ll change to this one. This one is a little different. I’ve used this one a lot. That one looks pretty good just because it’s nice and bright, nice and “contrast-y”. Let’s go back here. This one is pretty good.
Basically, you just go through and figure out which one looks the best. I like the ones that have a little bit more movement to them because they actually will get attention. Sometimes it’s like a really, really slow crawl with the clouds. And in that case, it just doesn’t get their attention. I like it when the clouds are moving. I like it when it is changing color. If you want to go a little crazy, you can go with this one. This one doesn’t really work with this picture because it’s clear that it’s during the day. But there are so many different things you can do. Now, let me show you something here. Let’s find a good one. Let’s go with this. You can see how slow this one is. That one is moving a little faster.
Let’s go with this one. This is a good one. Now, I don’t know if you noticed but the picture is now a little bit washed out. And I don’t know why this is. But all you have to do is tap the three dots right in the middle there. Hit ambient and it goes back to what it was. Now, if you go like that, it goes really washed out. You don’t really want it washed out. Because, as I said, we want the colors to pop. So that looks pretty good. We’ll go with that. Now, what else is cool about this is there are all these other things you can do. You can add effects and overlays and things like that. Now, what I like to do is I like to add an overlay. And with an overlay, you can do things where you’re playing with light. That’s a little too much. I wouldn’t do that. But you can throw some movement on like that where it’s like a lens flare type of deal. You can do something like that. Very subtle. Even something like that, it’s very subtle but it gets their attention. That’s the biggest thing. You’re trying to get people’s attention. You can even make it look like an old VHS tape if you wanted to. And you can do some crazy stuff like butterflies.
I don’t do most of this stuff. But what I do is I typically will do something like this. Because that will actually get the attention. I think this one looks pretty good. And, again, you could play with this app for hours. So you’re going to hit export. I typically will do 18 seconds. I move to 1:1. Let me move it over like that. And then I hit export. And, now, I’ve got a video that is made from a picture that I took that is bright and vivid and it’s going to pop and it’s going to get people’s attention and it’s going to work really well. And it only took me a couple of minutes to actually create it. Now, here’s the thing. I just showed you how to make the pattern interrupt, essentially. I explained why the pattern interrupt is important.
Your video message has to be as good as your video
But the other side to this is the actual messaging that you put in your video. Getting their attention is just half the battle. The other thing is your messaging has to be just as attractive as this picture.
